Oil on canvas – 40×60 cm
Inspired by: Ann, from the novel Dasem by Amr Tarek.
Her Fate is a narrative portrait steeped in emotion, memory, and quiet reckoning. Standing among gravestones, the figure of Ann holds an open book caught between past and present, light and shadow. The names “Ann” and “Matilda” etched behind her are more than markers of death; they are echoes of unresolved stories, layered in grief and strength.
Soft yet confident brushwork captures the weight in her eyes and the lantern’s subtle glow, illuminating not just the physical space, but the symbolic one she inhabits: a place of remembrance, of choices, and of consequence.
This painting is both an homage to a fictional character and a meditation on the burden of legacy. Ann becomes a vessel through which pain, truth, and endurance meet a woman defined not by what was given to her, but by what she chooses to carry forward.
